This report contains our assessment of the medical care provided to incarcerated people at High Desert State Prison between September 2023 and February 2024. We rated the case review component of the overall health care quality adequate and the compliance component of the overall health care quality adequate.

This report describes the OIG’s monitoring of the department’s staff misconduct local inquiry process in 2024. From January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024, the OIG monitored and closed 415 local inquiries. The OIG assigned one of three overall ratings for each case: superior, satisfactory, or poor. The department’s overall performance was poor in 270 of 415 cases, or 65 percent, and satisfactory in 145 cases, or 35 percent.

During March 2025, the OIG’s Centralized Screening Monitoring Team randomly selected 978 grievances for monitoring. This document presents six notable cases monitored and closed by the OIG during March 2025.
